Continuing the groundbreaking, inter-departmental,
year-long conservatory class
SPRING 2008
This course is designed to pre-produce four feature scripts that have
been work-shopped during the Fall UTFI class, the Feature Film Lab.
The goal of the course is to ready these projects for production. The
plan is to actually MAKE one of these films as a summer course.
In so doing, the Spring UTFI class will be a semester-long
examination of the Feature Film-Making process. It will focus on
creative collaboration, intensive work-shopping, and a through
understanding of long-format narrative filmmaking. We are looking for
a select group of graduate & undergraduate students interested in:
Directing, Producing, Acting, Cinematography, Production Design, and
Costume Design.
SUMMER 2008
This long session (12-week), total immersion, production course will involve the actual pre-production and principal photography of a motion picture. This course is designed to teach students all aspects of feature filmmaking, with students filling all production departments. We anticipate 50-60 students, on-set and in the production office/art department, working in close concert with professional mentors. Undergraduate and graduate students from across campus are eligible to apply. This course requires a full-time commitment; like any professional feature film shoot, commitment will be particularly intensive during principal photography. Select positions will be supported by scholarship funding and tuition stipends. Consent required. See utfi.utexas.edu for details about consent requirements. Note that each crew position requires that position-specific materials be submitted by April 25, and that pitch sessions, interviews and/or auditions will take place between April 23 and May 4.
For registration and consent information for Summer 2008, click on "How to Apply" on this page.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION (Spring): CONSENT REQUIRED
All interested students will need to audition or "pitch" in order to
demonstrate both their interest in taking the class and their
expertise/experience in whatever position in the class they desire to
fill. The consent process is different for each creative discipline
(see below) but all pitches should be taken seriously, as this is a
competitive campus-wide class.
