The Spring UTFI/RTF 368/396 Class will be a semester-long
examination of the Feature Film-Making process. It will focus
on creative collaboration, intensive work-shopping, and a thorough
understanding of long-format narrative filmmaking. We are looking
for a select group of graduate and undergraduate students interested
in: Directing, Producing, Acting, Cinematography, Production
Design, and Costume Design.
All interested students will need to present a ‘pitch’ that
demonstrates both their interest in taking the class as well
as their expertise/experience in whatever position in the class
they desire to fill. The consent process is different for each
creative discipline (see below) but all pitches should be taken
seriously, as this is a competitive campus-wide class.
PITCH GUIDELINES:
DIRECTORS
A) Select the project they most want to direct.
B) Prepare a ‘Pitch’ that demonstrates why they want
to direct that project and why they are the right director for said project.
That means the Director should be familiar with the script.
C) Pitches should be no longer than 5 minutes.
D) Audio/Visual tools are allowed, in fact, they are welcome.
E) Be prepared to answer questions from the selection committee
about you, your project, and your pitch.
F) Pitching a project that doesn’t end up being selected
for the class, DOES NOT mean you won’t be in the class. Do a great job
on your pitch, and we’ll consider you for the class regardless of which
project you chose.
G) No “Tag-Team” Pitches allowedi.e., we no
Director/Producer/etc. ‘Teams’ pitching together. You are more
than welcome to try to create a team of fellow students, but you won’t
be allowed to pitch together.
PRODUCERS
A) Select the project they most want to produce.
B) Prepare a ‘Pitch’ that demonstrates why they want
to produce that project and why they are the right producer for said project.

what they bring to the project.
C) Pitches should be no longer than 5 minutes.
D) Audio/Visual tools are allowed, in fact, they are welcome.
E) Be prepared to answer questions from the selection committee
about you, your project, and your pitch.

for the class, DOES NOT mean you won’t be in the class. Do a great job
on your pitch, and we’ll consider you for the class regardless of which
project you chose.
G) No “Tag-Team” Pitches allowedi.e., no Director/Producer/etc. ‘Teams’ pitching
together. You are more than welcome to try to team with fellow students, but
you won’t be allowed to pitch together.
